On Tuesday 16 August, the atmosphere at Melbourne Showgrounds was like no other, as over 350 Variety Bash entrants congregated to embark on their 5,156km charity drive to Cairns. Cars decked out in the most outrageous, colourful and wacky themes lined up the Showgrounds, making it a true sight to behold.

The Variety Bash is the largest annual fundraiser for Variety - the Children's Charity Victoria.

Since 1985, Australia’s largest and longest-running motoring event has raised over $200 million for children in need across the country. This year, Variety team will give away over $100,000 in grants to kids in need thanks to the entrants fundraising.

This year’s epic trip, the 30th Variety Bash in Victoria, stopped in some of Australia’s most iconic spots, such as Broken Hill, Birdsville and even the Walkabout Pub, renowned for being Crocodile Dundee’s watering hole. The entrants officially reached their final destination on Friday 26 August in Cairns, on the doorstep to the Great Barrier Reef - what a way to wrap it up!

Melbourne Showgrounds is honoured to have been the starting-line destination for such a wonderful initiative.
